After being one of, if not the biggest standout so far at the 2025-26 training camp and preseason, Vancouver Canucks top prospect and 2025 first-round draft pick Braeden Cootes opens up on potentially making the team out of camp.
With how the preseason is going so far, Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin is going to be forced to making some very tough roster decisions in the next ten days leading up to their first game of the 2025-26 regular season.
Even though tough, it is a positive situation as it means young players and prospects are stepping up to the plate and impressing the organization, making their job harder to choose who should start in the NHL or be sent down to the AHL to begin the regular season.
"I had the chance to talk to him during one of the drills today and he was just excited, as you'd expect. He also stood out today. He had a really good day. Getting on pucks and he's obviously smart and creative in some of the drills. So he's not just out here excited to be here, he's here to make an impression and he's done that through the first two days." McLean said.

«My goal is just to show people I can maybe play here. Make the coaches be like 'oh, maybe he's got a shot, make a little noise there.'I'm a competitive person, I'm not just going in there for an experience.»
If you didn't already like him enough, Cootes is even saying all the right things in interviews that indicates he knows where he belongs, and by the looks of it, it is in the NHL with the big club.
