Sawyer Mynio has quickly become a noteworthy prospect for the Vancouver Canucks, but on Friday they reassigned him to the AHL with the Abbotsford Canucks, with someone who has developed as quickly as he has, one would think to keep with the best players for as long as possible.

The cut was Friday was the only one made that day, prior to that 9 players were already cut a week before.
"While everyone knew they wouldn't be making the team this year, there is a point to be made that they should have been put into action against more established pros, to see how they would perform. The end goal is for them to go back to their respective teams and perform well, and gain confidence to make the next step in the next couple years."-Stinson

Sawyer Mynio sent packing by Vancouver Canucks, but was it too soon?

Daniel Wagner of vancouverisawesome.com reported on the controversial cut of Mynio.
"Since then, Mynio has made significant progress in his development, adding a lot more offence to his already strong defensive game. He put up 53 points in 63 games in his post-draft season, then had 45 points in just 48 games last season.
Mynio also earned a spot on Team Canada for the 2025 World Junior Championship. "-Wagner

While it is not a surprise that Mynio will play his first pro season in the AHL. The timing of the cut is what's odd, for a player who is developing that quickly, he should be playing more preseason games against some NHL competition to fastrack that progress even more. Rather than going down to lesser competition right away before the games start to matter.
"That's not too unusual for a prospect defenceman fresh out of Junior. Mynio will have to make some adjustments to the speed of the game under the tutelage of Manny Malhotra in Abbotsford. A full season in the AHL at his age would be expected for a defenceman who wasn't a first-round pick."-Wagner

Regardless of the timin Mynio should do well in his first pro season, and will be well on his way to cracking an NHL lineup in no time.
