The agent for former Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes has revealed how his client was really treated throughout the trade process last week before being dealt.

The day that Vancouver Canucks fans were dreading finally came on Friday evening as Jim Rutherford completed a trade involving now-former captain Quinn Hughes, sending him to the Minnesota Wild for a package that included defenseman Zeev Buium, forwards Marco Rossi and Liam Ohgren, along with a first round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
"We would like to thank Quinn for his time with the Vancouver Canucks. Quinn is a great person, a great player, and one of the greatest Canucks of all time. With the circumstances surrounding JT and now Quinn, we are fortunate to acquire these very good young players from Minnesota. They will be a key part of the rebuild that we are currently in, giving us a bright future moving forward. The hockey club will continue to build with talented young players using that as a blueprint to become a contender sooner rather than later." Jim Rutherford said about the Quinn Hughes trade.

Since the trade was made official five days ago, we've heard from Quinn Hughes, the management groups of the Minnesota Wild & Vancouver Canucks and now the former captain's agent, Pat Brisson, who opened up about how his client was treated throughout the process and how things went down.

During an interview on Sportsnet 590 radio this week, Pat Brisson praised the Vancouver Canucks organization for how they handled the trade and worked really well with him and Quinn Hughes to accommodate his needs, almost like he had a no-trade clause.
"It wasn't an easy decision, and I must admit, the [Canucks] organization was very classy along the way," Brisson said.

He added, "From Francesco Aquilini, to Jim [Rutherford] and Patrik [Allvin], working with us and quite frankly, if I can say this, if the deal didn't make sense, in other words, if it was something Quinn wasn't going to be happy with, I'm pretty sure they would have moved in a different direction. They worked extremely well with us, as if we had a no-trade clause, almost."

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that Quinn Hughes was treated with this much respect in the trade process, especially when considering he's one of the greatest players the franchise has ever seen, however it's still unfortunate that it came to this and that he is no longer part of the organization.
Hughes will be remember by Vancouver Canucks fans as the best defenseman in franchise history and some of those supporters are holding out hope that he'll even return to the club one day later on in his career and while that would be nice to see, it's probably very unlikely to actually happen.
