The Vancouver Canucks have reportedly placed a rookie forward on the National Hockey League's waiver wire as the team continues their five-game road trip out East.
Over the last month, the Vancouver Canucks' roster has seen plenty of change, whether it be due to injury, the signing of free agent centerman David Kampf, or the trade of Quinn Hughes that saw the club land Marco Rossi, Zeev Buium and Liam Ohgren in return.
In the lead up to the trade deadline on Friday, March 6th, there could be some more change to the Vancouver Canucks organization after Patrik Allvin has made all of the team's pending unrestricted free agents available on the market, with Kiefer Sherwood and Evander Kane the two players who will garner the most interest over the next two-and-a-half months.
Speaking of change, it appears that the Vancouver Canucks are taking a bit of a risk this week and have placed one of their rookie forwards on the NHL's waiver wire in hopes he'll clear and be assigned to the American Hockey League.
Vancouver Canucks place rookie forward on NHL's waiver wire
In a post on social media on Tuesday, NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali announced that the Vancouver Canucks have placed rookie forward Arshdeep Bains on the waiver wire.
Dhaliwal spoke about the team's decision to waive Arshdeep Bains during Tuesday's edition of Donnie & Dhali and he said that he was informed by someone around the game that they didn't think Arshdeep Bains would clear waivers if he were to end up on the wire this season.
"A few weeks ago, I had somebody tell me that they didn't think he will clear waivers.." Dhaliwal said.
Bains, a native of Surrey, British Columbia, was re-signed by the Vancouver Canucks back in late-June to a two-year deal worth $775,000 annually, but so far this season, he hasn't performed as the club was expecting.
The 24-year-old winger had a solid showing the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs, which set himself up nicely to earn a roster spot out of camp, which he managed to do, but in 26 games this season he has just five points (one goal, four assists), 12 penalty minutes and an even-rating.
We'll have to wait and see what happens on the waiver wire on Wednesday and if anyone decides to place a claim on the Canucks rookie, with the team's Pacific Northwest rivals, the Seattle Kraken, being the first team to get a crack at picking up him due to their place in the NHL's overall standings.
