Surprising Report Has the Vancouver Canucks Trading Away Elias Pettersson To Eastern Conference Team
After a disappointing 2024-25 for both the Vancouver Canucks and Swedish forward Elias Pettersson, many have been wonder if it's time to move on from him or if the organization wants to continue with him as their number one center.
Last week during his introductory press conference, newly-appointed Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote made it seem like
Pettersson will be sticking around, which shouldn't come as much of a shock given how much money and term the team has committed to the former first-round pick and they believe he can bounce back during the 2025-26 campaign.
Trade proposal emerges sending Elias Pettersson to the Detroit Red Wings
While the Vancouver Canucks might not have any intentions of wanting to trade Elias Pettersson this offseason, if a team were to approach them with an offer the club can't refuse, then Patrik Allvin would have to at least listen,
something he mentioned at his season-ending media availability in April.
"I would be stupid not to keep my options open." Allvin said.
In an article on Heavy.com this week, Cole Shelton took a look at an interesting trade that was proposed using the PuckGM tool on PuckPedia.
The trade proposal saw the Detroit Red Wings acquire Elias Pettersson from the Vancouver Canucks, with Patrik Allvin bringing back prospects
Nate Danielson and
William Wallinder, along with a 2026 first-round pick and a 2027 first-round pick.
"The proposed deal would be a blockbuster as Detroit takes a chance on Pettersson who can be a top-10 player in the NHL while the Canucks get two top prospects and two first-round picks." Shelton said.
Everyone knows that when Elias Pettersson is at the top of his game, as we saw during the 2022-23 season, that he can be one of the best in the National Hockey League, which is why he earned such a high salary and this would be a massive trade, if it were real.
The Detroit Red Wings would be getting another elite centerman to form a 1-2 punch with
Dylan Larkin, while the Vancouver Canucks would add two solid prospects to their system, including Nate Danielson, who had a strong rookie campaign in the AHL with
the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Danielson would likely need another full season in the American Hockey League before making the jump to the National Hockey League, but in a few years down the line, he could be a legit second line center for the Canucks.
As for the other prospect in this proposal, William Wallinder, he's just completed his second full season in the AHL moving to North America from Sweden following the conclusion of his 2022-23 campaign with the SHL's Rogle BK.
The 2020 second round pick is a good puck-moving defenseman who, when he's ready to play in the National Hockey League, will likely be a second-pairing guy and could also be a power play quarterback on the second unit.
We'll have to wait and see if any team does approach Patrik Allvin this summer regarding a potential offer for Elias Pettersson, but if they're anything like this proposal, then it's going to give him something to think long and hard about.
