Vancouver Canucks star goaltender Thatcher Demko finally opens up on former Head Coach Rick Tocchet abruptly leaving the organization to go to the Philadelphia Flyers, and it appears he is not being missed.
It is no secret that the Vancouver Canucks have gone through a major amount of changes, most notably seeing Rick Tocchet depart the team after just two seasons and winning a Jack Adams Award as the leagues most valuable coach.
Thatcher Demko talks about Rick Tocchet Leaving while praising new head coach Adam Foote
With almost no time in between, the Canucks decided that the best course of action moving forward was going to promote assistant coach Adam Foote as the new bench boss, and Demko clearly thinks he the right man for the job.
I think everyone was pretty shocked that Rick took off.
I'm not really going to speak on that because it's in the past now. But I think Footy is a guy that would lace up the skates and go kill a penalty tomorrow if he could. He loves the game, loves the hard parts of the game, and I think that's a huge, huge thing for our team. Just maybe be a little bit grittier and be committed to doing the hard things.
It is no shock that the core members of the Canucks are going to fully back Foote
Its surprise that players have thrown their support behind Foote, but it still must sting a little bit that in a day and age where coaches are always fired, Tocchet decided he no longer wanted to be with the organization.
