A Vancouver Canucks pending free agent forward has been named as a potential fit for a Canadian team, with the National Hockey League's UFA window opening on July 1st.
We're entering a busy period for teams around the National Hockey League with the NHL Entry Draft, which brings plenty of trades, along with the start of free agency, only a few days apart.
The Vancouver Canucks are certainly going to be a team to keep an eye on this summer as they have a couple of prominent free agents of their own including Brock Boeser, who is unlikely to return to the B.C. club next season, while Pius Suter and the management group haven't gained any traction towards a new deal.
Vancouver Canucks UFA forward named as possible option for Toronto Maple Leafs
While the Vancouver Canucks are still figuring out whether or not they will be keeping Brock Boeser and/or Pius Suter, if both players end up hitting the open market on Canada Day, there won't be a shortage of interested teams.
"The Maple Leafs could be entering an offseason where major change is needed if they fall short of their playoff goals. Mitch Marner and John Tavares are pending UFAs, and the team needs to re-sign pending RFA Matthew Knies.
If they decide to let Marner walk in free agency or he elects to seek a new opportunity, rumours have already swirled about the possibility of the Maple Leafs using Boeser and the Jets' Nikolaj Ehlers as replacements." Gaudio said.
Boeser, a native of Burnsville, Minnesota, might not be able to replicate the production that Mitch Marner did throughout his time in Toronto, but he'd still be a very reliable top-six winger for Craig Berube.
Heading into the summer, the Maple Leafs are expected to have roughly $25.7 million available in cap space and have the money to take a run at one of the top free agent forwards, such as Brock Boeser, who is projected to receive a six-year contract in the range of $8.4 million annually, according to AFP Analytics.
