Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote recently shared details about a conversation he had with captain Quinn Hughes regarding those ongoing rumors about his future.

For the last five months, one of the biggest topics in the hockey world has been the future of Quinn Hughes with the Vancouver Canucks after President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford spoke about the topic during the team's season-ending media availability.
"It may not boil down to money with [Quinn]. He said before he wants to play with his brothers. That would be partly out of our control. In our control if we brought his brothers here." Rutherford said.

Ever since, rumors have been running rampant, with some linking Hughes with a move to the New Jersey Devils to join his brothers Jack and Luke, while more recently, the Detroit Red Wings have emerged as a potential landing spot.

Quinn Hughes has already made it known publicly that he can handle the noise this season and that his focus is the present, not what could or couldn't happen in 12+ months.
"One thing I'm really good at - or have gotten good at - is I'm very present. I can't even sign for another year, so there's nothing I can do. As far as the noise (about his future), I can handle the noise. That's why I'm the captain of the team, because I can handle these things and I can play at an elite level and it doesn't matter what's going on around me." Hughes said.

If Vancouver happens to get off to a hot start to the 2025-26 season, then those rumors may quiet down a bit, but if the opposite happens and the Canucks find themselves outside of the playoff picture, they're only going to get louder.
Head Coach Adam Foote spoke to Ray Ferraro and Darren Dreger on the Ray and Dregs Podcast on Thursday where he shared details of a meeting he had with Quinn Hughes recently where the two spoke about the rumors surrounding his future in British Columbia.
Foote said he was alone with Hughes for a couple of hours and discussed his future with the Canucks and personally, he sees him sticking around in Vancouver and that if they're able do to well this season and prove last year was a fluke then "everything will take care of itself."
"Quinn and I spent a good couple of hours alone. It was a real good talk about where he may be now or later." Foote said.

He added, "And for me, I honestly think he's going to be a Canuck. I think it's all blown up, I'm not sure how much he wants to play with his brothers or not. And I'm not going to get too deep into it. I said to him [that] I'm the type of person, I think he understands me. Of course I want him here, I'm just going to coach each day at a time.

I see him here now, I see him here for these two years, I see him here in the future. And if we do what we can do, and he buys into the process and he's having fun - we're winning some hockey games - we'll just let everything take care of itself."

The Vancouver Canucks are hoping for a successful season, as the organization cannot afford missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a fifth time in the last six seasons and hopefully, for the sake of the club and their chances of winning now and in the future, Hughes will stick around, putting pen-to-paper on an extension at the earliest date possible - July 1st, 2026.
