Vancouver Canucks directly address culture problem with new post-game celebration tradition
The Vancouver Canucks seem to be reinvigorated since the massive Quinn Hughes trade with the Minnesota Wild, and defeating the New York Rangers and J.T. Miller definitely helps, it even appears they have a new post-game tradition shown by Thatcher Demko and Zeev Buium.
The new teammates seem to have passed on a battle axe at the end of the game, signifying a player of the game after wins.
"The Canucks are in the process of redefining themselves without their captain. They need to create a new identity and that takes time. Especially with the younger guys who were brought in, developing a winning culture is necessary to ensure a better future for the Canucks."-Stinson
New look Vancouver Canucks have new tradition.
Trevor Beggs of the Daily Hive reported on the new tradition in the Canucks locker room. It's definitely a good sign, as things seemed pretty bleak prior to the Hughes trade. There was a feeling of defeat and hopelessness from the players, but with newcomers, it feels like a new energy has been brought in.
"This appears to be the first postgame token handed out in the Canucks locker room since the WWE-style belt, which existed during the Bruce Boudreau era. The only other visible tradition we've seen in the Canucks locker room since was during their 2024 playoff run, where they handed out a game puck and added it to a Stanley Cup, with 16 slots. Boy, does that feel like a lifetime ago."-Beggs
Demko was terrific in his shutout against the Rangers, stopping all 23 shots he faced. Buium who is a product of San Diego just like Demko passed the axe on to him, after winning it in his historic debut with the team.
"«SD boys take care of each other, I like that a lot. A little bit of adversity this week, we all know, but it's good to stick together. I'm proud of you guys, keep going."-Demko
The Canucks now have a couple days off before facing the New York Islanders on Friday, hopefully the battle axe get's passed on for a third game in a row.
