The Arturs Silovs trade made with the Pittsburgh Penguins last month could end up coming back to haunt the Vancouver Canucks, one reporter said recently.

After playing a massive role in the Calder Cup Playoffs, which resulted in the Abbotsford Canucks winning their first-ever championship, the Vancouver Canucks were left with a difficult decision to make regarding Latvian goaltender Arturs Silovs.
Silovs proved during the run to the Calder Cup that he is ready for a full-time role in the National Hockey League, but with Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen blocking his path in Vancouver and him requiring waivers to be sent down to Abbotsford this fall, the Canucks traded him to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Arturs Silovs trade could come back to haunt Vancouver Canucks

Allvin ended up doing a bit better than people expected with the return for Arturs Silovs, landing a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft, along with 22-year-old forward Chase Stillman, who was a first-rounder of the New Jersey Devils in 2021 and is more than likely Abbotsford bound to begin the year.
While clearing the team's goaltending logjam was a priority this summer, some fans weren't happy with the decision after the performance the 24-year-old had in the postseason and one writer with The Hockey Writers believes the team could end up regretting the move.
In an article recently, Lukas Bernasiewicz shared that the Vancouver Canucks may end up regretting the decision to trade Arturs Silovs this summer due to the numerous injuries Thatcher Demko has dealt with in the past 12+ months.
"It's obviously very early to determine who the winner of this deal will be, but I feel Canucks fans and management should be wary of a reality that could come from this trade. What could come from this trade is that Silovs goes to the Penguins and becomes a great starting goaltender for them, and finally fills the hole that they have needed since the new decade began. While Vancouver struggles to keep Demko healthy with whatever lower-body injury he has, and they are forced to bring an inexperienced goaltender from the minors to back up Lankinen and their goaltending becomes a major cause for concern." Bernasiewicz said.

Only time will tell how this decision works out for Patrik Allvin, with the Vancouver Canucks hoping that Thatcher Demko can stay healthy, return to his Vezina Trophy form and lead the team to the Stanley Cup Playoffs next spring.
