The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly among a number of teams that have interest in a former first round pick that was placed on the waiver wire earlier on Monday.
After being unable to find a second line centerman in the offseason, Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin has been quite busy over the last month trying to fill some holes in his forward group amid the team's injury issues.
"David is a very reliable two-way centre who will improve our strength and depth down the middle immediately. He is good in the faceoff dot and is a solid penalty killer, two areas of need we currently have on our team. His hockey IQ is also a big asset and we believe he will fit in nicely with our group." Patrik Allvin said yesterday.
Despite the additions of Lukas Reichel and
David Kampf, it doesn't look like Patrik Allvin is done adding to his roster and may have interest in another former first round pick.
Vancouver Canucks reportedly among teams interested in ex-first rounder on waivers
After appearing in just six of the team's first 20 games of the 2025-26 season and missing the last four with an upper-body injury, the Boston Bruins have decided to place 2019 first round pick
John Beecher on waivers on Monday.
"The #bruins have placed Johnny Beecher on waivers" TSN's Chris Johnston said.
Beecher, a native of Elmira, New York, has spent the majority of the previous two seasons in the NHL with the Bruins, including 78 games for the club in 2024-25 where he registered 11 points.
During an appearance on Donnie & Dhali on Monday, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared that two teams who may have interest are the Montreal Canadiens and Vancouver Canucks, adding that he wouldn't be surprised if the latter have already checked in on Beecher.
"Montreal is looking for a centre and I don't think I would be surprised if Vancouver checked in on him." Friedman said according to Rick Dhaliwal.
"Beecher is a guy I mentioned before the season as a potential buy low 4th line centre option.
Not a tonne of offensive upside but wins draws, has size and some PK experience." Sat Shah of Sportsnet 650 said.
The 24-year-old centerman is under contract for the 2025-26 season with a cap hit of $900,000 USD and is set to become a restricted free agent next summer, so it wouldn't be too hard to add him to the roster, however given the aforementioned signing of David Kampf and trade for Lukas Reichel, it seems unlikely that John Beecher will land in Vancouver, but, you can never say never.
