A National Hockey League insider believes that a former Stanley Cup champion has earned himself a regular spot in the Vancouver Canucks lineup this season.

Thanks to a big win in Tampa Bay on Sunday afternoon, the Vancouver Canucks moved back to the .500 mark on the season and now sit at 9-9-2 through 20 games and are two points back of the final wild card spot in the Western Conference.
While it hasn't been the greatest season so far for the Canucks, with inconsistent play and injuries stealing the headlines from the moment the puck dropped back in early October, Adam Foote has managed to get contributions from some unexpected players this season.
As Vancouver moves into the second quarter of the NHL's 2025-26 season, it appears that a former Stanley Cup champion on the roster is making his claim to remain with the big club for the remainder of the year.

NHL insider believes former Stanley Cup champion has earned regular spot in lineup

In the offseason, the Vancouver Canucks announced the signing of 2019 Stanley Cup champion Mackenzie MacEachern to a two-year, two-way contract and with 123 games of NHL experience under his belt, it was only a matter of time he made an impact on this Vancouver Canucks roster.
Ahead of their road trip at the end of October, the Vancouver Canucks called up MacEachern from the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks and after registering four points in five games, including his first goal with the team last night in Tampa Bay, one insider believes the 31-year-old winger may have earned a regular spot in the NHL just based on his in-game habits.
"Here's Mackenzie MacEachern, who all of a sudden looks like a staple in this lineup, but his habits are good, he doesn't look out of place and with a bottom line, my goodness. So good on him and again, it's going to be interesting next 12 hours or so when we see the Canucks decide to move off the roster to make room for David Kampf." Jeff Paterson of Rink Wide: Vancouver said.
Given how well MacEachern has played in his five games with the Vancouver Canucks and with this team needing all the wins they can get with guys like Filip Chytil and Thatcher Demko on the sidelines, it wouldn't make a ton of sense to send the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan native down to the AHL anytime soon, but when the club returns to full health, hopefully at some point in December, Patrik Allvin is going to have a very tough decision to make.
