Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin and president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford are now facing a costly decision as head coach Rick Tocchet is demanding a lot more than previously thought.

There has been a lot of speculation that head coach Rick Tocchet may not be returning as the head coach of the Vancouver Canucks next season as he publicly expressed that he will not be discussing a contract during the season.
"I think they've made Tocchet an offer. Obviously that offer didn't get it done...I can't see the Canucks hold Tocchet to the option year if they all agree it's not the right path." Friedman said.

Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet's Contract Demands Made Public

After winning the Jack Addams ward for the NHL's best coach in his first season as the Canucks man behind the bench, it is clear that he is an amazing leader and deserves a raise.
But considering the disappointment of this season and the slim chances at making the Stanley Cup Playoffs, his stock has surely dipped, but according to a report by Elliotte Friedman, it has not in his eyes.
During the most recent episode of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Friedman said that there are teams left, right and center lining up to hire Tocchet this offseason, and if the Canucks want to keep him, they will need to pay more than they ever have for a coach.
«If they want to extend Tocchet, it's going to go into a bigger number than they've paid a coach in quite some time, and how do the Canucks feel about that? I think that's going to be as much the decision for Vancouver as it's going to be anything else,» continued Friedman.

As it stands tight now, the highest-paid NHL coach is the Pittsburgh Penguins' Mike Sullivan who makes $5.5 million a season, per Front Office Sports.
Tocchet is currently earning a yearly salary of $2.75 million according to NHL Insider and TSN's Pierre LeBrun.
If putting all of this information all together, Tocchet is searching for a doubling of salary, and Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford will have to think long and hard if they want to give up that amount of dough in order to keep him.
