Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson has been linked to five teams recently by an NHL insider, as the team continues to weigh their options with the Swedish star.
We're about to enter the busiest time of the year for the National Hockey League with the Entry Draft and the beginning of free agency less than three weeks away and as is the case every June and July, there are plenty of trades and 2025 will be no different.
The first big trade of the summer occurred this week as the Anaheim Ducks acquired Chris Kreider from the New York Rangers and with the Vancouver Canucks hoping to be aggressive, many are wondering if they'll enter the mix on the trade market as well.
Five teams reportedly interested in Vancouver Canucks' Elias Pettersson
At this time of year, rumors are always running wild and the Vancouver Canucks are no strangers to dealing with them throughout the 2024-25 season including on some of their big names including Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser.
Earlier this month, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported that the Vancouver Canucks are taking calls on Elias Pettersson this summer, with the Swedish forward having his full no-movement clause kick in on July 1st.
"The 26-year-old centre will see his no-movement clause kick-in July 1 and the belief across the NHL is the Canucks will continue to entertain trade calls. It does not sound like the price tag has changed much, if at all, so a team will have to pay up to pry him out of B.C. Do the Sabres take another swing? They surely won't be the lone team to try." Pagnotta said.
Now, while the Vancouver Canucks may still be taking calls and gauging the market for Elias Pettersson, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared on Friday that the team would prefer to hold onto him and believe that he will turn things around next season.
There's no question that a number of teams around the league would like to bring in a player like Elias Pettersson and in a recent 'Trade Watch List' on The Fourth Period, the Sundsvall, Sweden native has been linked to five clubs - the Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild and the Ottawa Senators.
"The Canucks have said they prefer to keep Pettersson, but Vancouver is open to taking calls. Pettersson has a full no-movement clause that kicks in July 1 and his trade value is at a low-point, so moving him may prove to be difficult.

We'll have to wait and see where things go in the weeks ahead, but if the Vancouver Canucks are to trade Elias Pettersson, it'll come before July 1st when they still hold full control on where he can get dealt and ultimately, maximize the return they'd receive.
