The South Island Ravens, a youth hockey program for kids with disability, recently had their gear stolen, Francesco Aquilini and the Vancouver Canucks immediately stepped in to help and presented them with a donation to replace the lost equipment.
"David Quadrelli of Canucks Army reported on the new name for the AHL affiliate. It's a good step forward for the team receiving a big time sponsor in Rogers to be placed on the arena, formerly known as the Abbotsford Centre. It should definitely help the team with funding and providing a better experience for the fans and the players."-Stinson
Vancouver Canucks help out local team in need.
Tony Trozzo of Victoria News reported on the act of good will the Canucks did for the Victoria based team. About a month ago approximately $3500 worth of gear was stolen from the Ravens, and program that heavily relies on donations to stay alive. But Aqulini not only paid for the stolen equipment he added another $6500, presenting a $10 000 cheque to the team.
"On Tuesday, Ravens players were invited to Marilena Cafe for another show of community support. Vancouver Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini, joined by former Canucks forwards Stan Smyl and Darcy Rota, presented the Ravens with a $10,000 cheque through the Canucks for Kids Fund."-Trozzo
The Canucks will also be hosting the Ravens at a game in March, since the team will be in Vancouver for a tournament hosted by the Surrey Stingrays. Gus Ascroft the co-founder of the team, was overjoyed.
"We were totally overwhelmed. We've run this program on $25 to $50 donations for 13 years, just trying to get the kids on the ice every season. This support is going to help us so much. And for our kids to be recognized like this means everything. They show up every week, they work hard, they do their best. Seeing them celebrated is fantastic.»-Trozzo
While many only focus on the Canucks performance on the ice, it's important to consider their impact off the ice as well.
