The season opener for the Vancouver Canucks got underway last night against the Calgary Flames, the team had an explosive 5-1 win to start the season, but what was more surprising was to see Arshdeep Bains on the 2nd line to start the season.

Bains recorded an assist in the win, it is only his second point in the NHL, which is why is still shocking to see him make the top 6.
"Today's the day, the Vancouver Canucks will officially open their 2025-26 schedule tonight against the Calgary Flames after a very long offseason that was filled with changes on and off the ice."-Jaxon

Arshdeep Bains shocks the hockey world playing on the 2nd line for the Vancouver Canucks.

Daniel Wagner of piquenewsmagazine.com reported on why Bains ended up on the second line, part of it had to do with him earning in and part of it was due to a lack of options.
"The first reason is the injury to Nils Höglander that opened up a spot on the left wing. Höglander suffered an ankle sprain during the preseason that required surgery and will be out for 8-10 weeks. Prior to his injury, Höglander was playing with Chytil on what looked like a duo that might stick together for the regular season. It was only after Höglander's injury that Bains was bumped up to play with Chytil."-Wagner

Another reason had to do with the chemistry Braeden Cootes and Johnathan Lekkerimaki developed together, it wouldn't have been smart to split them up and so they played on the third line together to kick the season off.
"The Canucks' coaching staff, headed up by Adam Foote, wants to have a veteran alongside the two rookies, and that task has been given to Evander Kane. The new Canuck has plenty of experience he can impart on the two young players, but also has a physical edge to his game that might make his two smaller linemates feel a little more comfortable and confident on the ice."-Wagner

Kane is easily more qualified to be on the 2nd line but chemistry matters more than the depth chart and so he was slotted on the third line to guide the two rookies.
Lastly Bains has a lot more to show than what we have seen so far. He has only skated in 21 NHL games, which is not a big enough sample size to judge his role on the team yet. He already doubled his point total in one night on the 2nd line, so who knows where he goes from here.
