The Vancouver Canucks are officially in the mix to land a pending restricted free agent forward from the Buffalo Sabres this summer according to an NHL insider.
For the last month and a half, it's been well known that the Vancouver Canucks are searching for help for their forward group, primarily a second line centerman and potentially a top-six winger, with the latter hinging on the
departure of Brock Boeser.
Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford
promised to fans that the team will be aggressive in their pursuit of forward help and in the weeks since he said that, the team has been linked to a number of players, including JJ Peterka of the Buffalo Sabres.

Over the last little while, the Buffalo Sabres were hesitant on wanting to trade JJ Peterka, and still aren't too keen on wanting to do so as they believe he's a big piece of their forward group for years to come.
Despite that,
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported earlier this week that the Buffalo Sabres are listening to offers for the German forward, who will become a restricted free agent on July 1st, and
according to Frank Seravalli, the Vancouver Canucks have called the Buffalo Sabres to inquire about what it may cost to acquire him.
"In terms of what the Canucks are up to elsewhere, I mentioned to Dan [Riccio] earlier this week that I believe Vancouver is one of the teams that's been closely following and has called the Sabres on the JJ Peterka file." Seravalli said.
On Thursday, Seravalli doubled down on the Vancouver Canucks' interest in JJ Peterka, naming them as one of the teams that remains in the mix to land the Munich native.
Along with the Canucks, Seravalli mentions the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Islanders, New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning as teams that are interested in JJ Peterka.
"Frank Seravalli: The Islanders, Blackhawks, Lightning, Canucks, Rangers are squarely in the mix for JJ Peterka - DFO Rundown" NHL Rumour Report said on X.
The price to acquire JJ Peterka will likely be steep and will probably start with Vancouver's first round pick, along with another young asset, possibly a defenceman such as Victor Mancini, for example.
As for Peterka's next contract, which Vancouver would want sorted out quickly if they were to acquire him,
AFP Analytics is projecting that he's in line for a either a two-year deal at $4.6 million annually or a seven-year deal worth $7.79 million per season, both of which would be worth it for the Canucks.
This past season, the 23-year-old registered a career-high 68 points (27 goals, 41 assists), 34 penalty minutes and was a minus-one.
