A trade proposal has emerged this week that would send a veteran Vancouver Canucks defenseman to an Eastern Conference club that needs help on the blue line.
It should lead to a pretty interesting storyline to watch throughout camp, but with the logjam on the blue line forcing some players to the American Hockey League to start the season, could we potentially see Patrik Allvin move someone out to create a roster spot?
Trade proposal emerges sending Tyler Myers to Eastern Conference team
It's been nine years since Detroit Red Wings fans have seen their team reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs and it's getting a bit tense in the Motor City, with Steve Yzerman certainly on the hot seat entering the 2025-26 campaign.
Because of that urgency to make it back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, it won't be much of a shock if the Red Wings are aggressive on the trade front, potentially early on in the year, as they look to make their mark in the Atlantic Division.
In a recent article for Heavy.com, Tristin McKinstry suggested that the Detroit Red Wings should target Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers to help shore up their blue line.
McKinstry's trade proposal would see Detroit land Tyler Myers, while Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks would acquire defenseman
Justin Holl, defensive prospect
Eemil Viro and a conditional 2028 second round pick that can turn into a first rounder if the Red Wings reach the 2028 Eastern Conference Final.
"As a result, the Red Wings are in need of a top-four defenseman. Ideally, they need someone who is not afraid to throw the body. But his main role will be blocking shots and shutting down opposing offenses.
Detroit Red Wings acquire: Tyler Myers
Vancouver Canucks acquire: Justin Holl, Eemil Viro, and a conditional 2028 second-round pick that becomes a first-round pick if Detroit advances to the Eastern Conference Finals before the 2028 NHL Draft." McKinstry said.
The 35-year-old has two years remaining on his contract, including the 2025-26 campaign, with a cap hit of $3 million USD, which is quite reasonable
when considering what he brings to the team and even though we mentioned about the Canucks' logjam on the blue line, parting ways with a leader like Tyler Myers wouldn't be a wise decision for Patrik Allvin and team's management group at this time.
If things go south for Vancouver, perhaps they could look at moving him closer to the trade deadline, but for now, holding onto the Houston, Texas native would be a smart decision.
