The Vancouver Canucks are going to have to pay a hefty price if they want to land a two-time Stanley Cup champion in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins this summer.

It's been a busy summer for the Vancouver Canucks thus far and they're still hoping they can make at least one more addition in the weeks ahead as we inch closer to training camp.
"It may be mid-summer, but #Canucks management isn't "off to the cottage" just yet.

Hear the club is monitoring a couple of the UFA options still on the market. No surprise given their recent history.

VAN needs to move out cap dollars first, + they're actively working to do so." Thomas Drance of The Athletic said in mid-July.

There's been a number of players on the Canucks' radar this summer and while they would like to add a legit second line centerman, if the opportunity to bring in a scoring winger comes up, it would surely be something that Patrik Allvin considers.

Earlier this summer, when news came out about the Pittsburgh Penguins being open for business, one name that was linked to the Vancouver Canucks was 33-year-old forward Bryan Rust, who is coming off a career-year.
Rust was suggested as an option for the Canucks by Harman Dayal and Thomas Drance of The Athletic back in June, with the forward's no-movement clause expiring on Canada Day.
"Rust's no-movement clause will expire on July 1, and the rebuilding Penguins could look to cash in on the veteran winger's value." Dayal and Drance said.

Flash forward to August 3rd and the Pittsburgh Penguins have been pretty quiet this offseason, with Bryan Rust remaining apart of their organization for now and it sounds like it'll cost quite a bit to acquire him.
While he didn't mention any asking price, Josh Yohe of The Athletic shared recently that the Penguins aren't going to be selling Bryan Rust or Rickard Rakell for "peanuts", but do want to get younger next season and GM Kyle Dubas is open to a rebuild.
"Kyle Dubas isn't selling Rakell and Rust for peanuts, Still, I keep going back to what several team sources have told me: Dubas wants to go young next season" Yohe said.

He added, "A big trade or two feels likely before training camp. Dubas hasn't received offers that meet his liking yet but he is fully committed to a rebuild"
The Vancouver Canucks can be patient when it comes to make another addition to their roster, as even though they have some cap space and want to bring someone in, likely via trade, one NHL insider believes that the club may stand pat for now and re-evaluate after November.
