Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim Receiving Major Backlash For Recent Comments Made About the Vancouver Canucks
After the some pretty questionable quotes about the Vancouver Canucks, Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim is facing major backlash from fans.
When we posted the article about what Mayor Kim Sim said to the Daily Hive in a recent article, there was no telling how much backlash he would be getting.
But, it makes sense now, especially knowing how passionate Vancouver Canucks fans are.
It is also not just Canucks fans who are upset, but casual residents too, especially for how good the city of Vancouver is at putting on major events.
The city did a fantastic job with the 2010 Winter Olympics and have a big task ahead as Vancouver is set to host seven matches at BC Place for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Fans Berate Mayor Ken Sim for his comments on the Vancouver Canucks
In a interview with the Daily Hive, which we here at Canucks Daily reported on, he told reporter Kenneth Chan that he does want to see the Canucks play well, just not good enough to make the playoffs.
He thinks that when the Canucks do well, just like making it to game 7 against the Boston Bruins, it causes a lot of safety concerns, and more importantly, costs the city a lot of money.
«As a fan, I want to see the Canucks have an exciting run and make it to the Stanley Cup Finals, and hopefully win in Game 7 in overtime. As the Mayor of Vancouver, I do not want them to play a single game in the playoffs because the stress that it causes for safety,» Sim said.
He added, "We can handle it, but the costs, if they made another [Stanley Cup] run, the bill would be in the millions of dollars."
When these comment made it to the fans and residents of Vancouver, they were outraged, absolutely berating the Mayor for wishing against the success of the team for his personal interests..
Some Examples of what fans have said social media
"Sounds like Vancouver needs a new mayor,"

"There were no problems in last year's playoffs so I don't know what he's scared of," one acknowledged.
"No one cares what this guy has to say Mr. no fun city," another added.
