An NHL insider has revealed on Monday that an ongoing battle is taking place behind the scenes involving the Aquilini family, who own the Vancouver Canucks.

The Vancouver Canucks' ownership group has been quite stable for the last 20 years, despite fans not being too happy with decisions made by Francesco Aquilini in the last couple of years, including the auctioning off of Washington Capitals jerseys by Alexander Ovechkin.
There were rumblings earlier in the spring that the Aquilini family was considering selling a portion of the Vancouver Canucks, however that was shot down pretty quickly.
It appeared that the ownership group would stay in place for the 2025-26 season, however just two days after rumors were shot down about the team potentially being up for sale, one of Francesco Aquilini's brothers, Paolo, resigned from his position.

Insider reveals 'ongoing battle' behind the scenes involving Aquilini family

During Monday's edition of the DFO Rundown Podcast, NHL insider Frank Seravalli spoke about the Vancouver Canucks' ownership situation heading into the summer.
Seravalli revealed that there's an ongoing battle going with the Aquilini family behind the scenes, but it's not in relation to control of the team, which he says will still be run by Francesco Aquilini.
He went on to add that the Aquilini family still need to buyout Paolo Aquilini and that they're hoping to get it done around the start of the 2025-26 NHL season in October.
"There is an ongoing battle behind the scenes right now between the Aquilini family. It's not over control of the team because Francesco is going to maintain that...They have to buyout Paolo. It has been ongoing. Probably wont get settled until the start of the season." Seravalli said.
Another NHL insider, Darren Dreger, was a guest on Canucks Talk on Monday where he shared some limited information about the ownership situation and said that he's heard some interesting rumors locally about what's going on, but isn't comfortable reporting on it just yet.
We'll have to wait and see what happens over the summer months when it comes to the Vancouver Canucks' ownership group and whether or not the Aquilini family will buy out Paolo Aquilini or if they'll find someone to take on a minority stake of the franchise.
