LATEST | Insider gives an update on a possible Luke Schenn return to Vancouver
The Canucks dealt their beloved veteran Luke Schenn to the Maple Leafs days prior to the trade deadline. Schenn is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, given doesn't re-sign with the Leafs until then, and Rick Dhaliwal has an update regarding the chances of seeing him back in Vancouver next season.
Schenn has engaged in extension talks with the Leafs
As most of you have witnessed, Schenn was stellar during his time with the Leafs and gave them toughness and stability. Dhaliwal reported on Donnie, and Dhali showed that the two parties had engaged in preliminary extension talks and that the expectation was that he'd be awarded a raise. However, Schenn will most likely be after a term as he's aging and be after stability for his young family. Here's the sequence:
If he comes out on the market, Dhaliwal is certain that Schenn will be out for contending teams. The uncertainty behind the Canucks' success makes Vancouver an unlikely destination even though he'd fit right into the team's need for the 3rd pair, and his leadership attributes surely wouldn't be going to waste.
Schenn will turn 34 in November, knowing that he probably wants a chance to compete for the Cup immediately. Is it logical for him to look at Vancouver as a fit for his needs? On the contrary, Schenn already showed his love for the Vancouver market when he signed a second time with the team. Could he love Vancouver this much?
