An NHL insider is reporting on Monday that the Vancouver Canucks are reportedly closing in on a contract extension for 2024 Vezina Trophy finalist Thatcher Demko.

One month ago, reports indicated that Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko was open to a change of scenery this summer after parts of eight seasons with the club.
"Goalie Thatcher Demko appears open to a change of scenery and is expected to be in play as he enters the final year of his contract." David Pagnotta said.

That report made sense at the time, as the Canucks have Kevin Lankinen locked up for the next five years, along with the stellar play of Arturs Silovs in the Calder Cup Playoffs, however, it looks like the 29-year-old netminder will be remaining with the Vancouver Canucks.

NHL insider says Vancouver Canucks closing in on contract extension for Thatcher Demko

In a post on social media on Monday, Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff shared that the Vancouver Canucks are closing in on a contract extension with goaltender Thatcher Demko, with the netminder officially eligible to put pen-to-paper as of tomorrow.
"Sources say #Canucks and goaltender Thatcher Demko are closing in on a contract extension that will keep him in Vancouver.

Demko is eligible to sign an extension as soon as tomorrow and it sounds like that will indeed happen." Seravalli said.
TSN's Darren Dreger added that the two sides have agreed on the term of the new contract, but are still working out how much money he'll be earning annually, as well as the structure of the deal.
"It will get done. Sounds like they've agreed on term, but still some work being done on $ and structure." Dreger said.

Demko, a native of San Diego, California, has had a tough last 12 months dealing with multiple injuries and this past season, only appeared in 23 games for the club where he sported a 10-8-3 record along with a 2.90 goals against average, an .889 save percentage and one shutout.
With Thatcher Demko now locked up, along with Kevin Lankinen, it could lead the team to dangle Arturs Silovs in trade talks as they continue to search for a second line centerman.
Given how well Silovs played in the Calder Cup Playoffs, earning MVP honours, his value is pretty high at the moment and there are quite a few teams around the NHL that are looking for a backup netminder this summer.
