LATEST | NHL releases statement on Connor Bedard
After a historical season in the WHL and at the World Juniors, Connor Bedard is the name on everybody's lips ahead of the 2023 amateur draft, where the Chicago Blackhawks hold the rights to the first pick.
Seen as the potential next generational talent, the North Vancouver, BC. product collected 71 goals and 143 points in 57 WHL games, then added 20 in 7 playoff games. With the Memorial Cup coming to an end, the CHL announced their awards for the most recent campaign, and the NHL highlighted Bedard's dominance:
''The 17-year-old center with Regina of the Western Hockey League won the CHL Top Prospect, Top Scorer, and David Branch Player of the Year awards. No player had won all three in the same season since the Top Scorer award was introduced in 1994''
No other player has won 3 awards in the same season since Connor McDavid in 2015 (Top Scholastic, Top Player, Top Prospect). Unless something major happens, Bedard is expected to be the first overall pick in Nashville when draft day comes, will his dominance translate to the NHL?
