The Vancouver Canucks would like to make some additions to their roster this summer, but in order to do so, they'll need to clear some cap space. That might be easier said than done, especially with next season's salary cap only going up by $1 million.
Among the areas Patrik Allvin and the Canucks would like to improve on is on the blueline. At the trade deadline, they acquired Filip Hronek and now they could have their eyes on a young defenceman who's expected to be moved by the Minnesota Wild this summer.
Addison, a native of Brandon (Manitoba), spent the entire 2022-23 season with Minnesota appearing in 62 games. In those 62 games, Addison had 29 points (three goals, 26 assists), 22 penalty minutes and was a minus-17.
The right-shot defenceman is set to become a restricted free agent this summer after completing the third and final year of his entry-level contract. Addison has a qualifying offer of $878,500 and it's likely that the Wild issue one to him because if they didn't he could become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. Issuing him a qualifying offer allows the Wild to retain his rights and would help them get more time to work out a deal with another team.
