Vancouver's season could mathematically be over as early as tonight
The Vancouver Canucks are set to host the Los Angeles Kings in a Sunday night tilt at Rogers Arena and while everyone knew this day was coming, the team could be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention as early as tonight.
Vancouver will be eliminated from playoff contention if one of the following four scenarios occurs on Sunday:
- A loss in any fashion to Los Angeles
- An overtime/shootout win vs Los Angeles AND Calgary defeating Anaheim in regulation.
- An overtime/shootout win vs Los Angeles AND Calgary defeating Anaheim in overtime/shootout AND a Winnipeg overtime/shootout loss to New Jersey.
- Winnipeg defeating New Jersey in any fashion.
While the playoffs are out of reach at this point, general manager Patrik Allvin will turn his attention to the NHL Entry Draft in late June. As of Sunday afternoon, the Canucks hold the eighth-best odds (6.0%) at getting the first overall pick and an opportunity to land the hometown star, Connor Bedard.
