Coyotes being shopped: NHL to make a massive announcement?
Arizona Coyotes owner Alex Muruelo has reportedly put the team up for sale. He has spoken to many potential buyers, seeking upwards of $1 billion for the sale of the team. Having met with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, Muruelo insists on keeping the team within the state of Arizona.
The Coyotes have seen no shortage of relocation rumours in recent years. The team currently plays out of Mullett Arena, which they share with Arizona State University, holding just a fraction of most other NHL arenas.
The team has been scouring potential land for a new arena near the Mesa and Glendale metro areas, but a possible land auction could not take place until June at minimum. A vote to build a potential new arena in the Tempe metro area was rejected last season, and the team has been somewhat scrambling to settle new arenas plans in the meantime.
The Coyotes were recently eliminated from playoff contention, and have not seen any postseason action since the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs, where they squeezed in due to them allowing of 24 teams for a play-in round.
