Prior to the beginning of this season, longtime Bruins star Brad Marchand was named captain for their historic 100th season in the NHL. This came after Bruins legend and previous captain Patrice Bergeron decided to call it a career following their devastating demise at the hands of the Florida Panthers in last season's playoffs.

Despite being given the honour of wearing the «C», Marchand has long had a reputation of being one of the league's most notorious agitators. In fact, he passed Chris Pronger to become the NHL's all-time suspensions leader with eight in February of 2022. Additionally, he has also been the recipient of six fines over the course of his career.

However, during Tuesday night's game versus the Calgary Flames, Marchand was on the receiving end of a dirty play. After crashing the goal and giving Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom a love tap on the glove, he was blindsided by a vicious cross-check at the hands of Flames rookie forward Martin Pospisil:

Pospisil received a five-minute major penalty along with an ejection. Marchand received a minor penalty for slashing on the play.

Pospisil, 24, has 11 points through 34 NHL games this season. He will wait to see if he receives any further disciplinary action from the league. He has no prior suspension history.
