Massive update on Milan Lucic's career: Gary Bettman forcing him to retirement?
The Boston Bruins power forward and Vancouver native Milan Lucic got himself in hot waters earlier this year despite no legal punishments. It may be the end of his career.
According to Frank Seravalli's sources, the power forward is still training, hoping to find his way back into an NHL lineup. The forward was arrested last November, but all the charges were dropped in February when his wife refused to testify.
The forward then took an indefinite leave of absence and hasn't returned since. His contract with the Bruins ended on June 30th. While Lucic was never formally suspended, Gary Bettman will have to clear the forward if a team intends to bring him back.
Some will argue that his career was already over, but Lucic's training suggests he believes a return is feasible and that teams may already have shown interest.
Lucic's career in Gary Bettman's hands?
Gary Bettman seems to have the answer as to whether or not Lucic will ever step foot on an NHL ice again. Is Lucic worthy of another chance? At 36, Lucic is a veteran of 1177 regular-season games and 136 playoff matchups; he surely does bring experience with him.
However, the baggage and history he carries may be too much for Bettman to grant him another opportunity.
