Minnesota Youth Hockey Player Sadly Passes Away Following Battle With Cancer
A youth hockey player in Minnesota has sadly passed away following a battle with Cancer.
We have some sad news to share in the hockey world on Friday as it was announced that Max Akerson, a youth player from the state of Minnesota, has lost his battle with liver cancer this week.
Max's mother Sarah, announced the news of her son's passing at the age of 16-years-old.
"Today at 10:20 a.m. Max tried to get out of bed and collapsed in his dad's arms. He took his last breath with his parents' hands on him. He is free from pain and suffering. He fought so long and hard. He did not let cancer win. He lived every day." Sarah Akerson said.
Max Akerson was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer in early 2022 after a trip to the hospital where he was dealing with a fever and abdominal pain and unfortunately, the disease returned.
Tributes pour in for Max Akerson
Following the news of Max Akerson's passing, tributes began to pour in from the hockey community, with flowers and candles being left outside Champlin Ice Forum in Champlin, Minnesota, where his high-school team played.
"It sucks. It hurts," Champlin Park Hockey Coach Tom Potter said.. "He's been battling this for a long time."
Potter went on to add, "Not fair, because, you know, one of the good ones is gone.
Seeing his last name on the back of a jersey and the kid never got to wear it tears you up," The thoughts of everyone here at Canucks Daily is with the Akerson family, as well as Max's friends and teammates at this very difficult time.
