The Rangers have been notably active on the trade market in an attempt to shed some salary, and this may be an alternative that saves them in the long run. Canucks, on their end, have had Tyler Myers on the trade block for quite some time.
This trade proposal would fill the Canucks need for a 3rd-line centerman; they'd also be adding a capable right-handed defenseman who could be the right fit to play alongside the team's top defenseman, Quinn Hughes.
To New York
- 1st Round Selection 2024 Vancouver (Top 10 Protected)
- Tyler Myers (30% retention - $1.8M)
- Nils Hoglander
To Vancouver
- Barclay Goodrow
- Braden Schneider
Goodrow, the two-time Stanley Cup winner in Tampa Bay, probably is one of the league's top third-liners. Is under contract for 4 more years at $3.64M AAV and has been rumoured to be on the block for the Rangers for quite some while. Schneider, on the other end, is the main piece of this trade.
The 19th selection in the 2020 draft, he's a skilled and sized two-way defenseman who's only waiting for a better opportunity. The Rangers already have Jacob Trouba and Adam Fox on the right side, which makes Schneider expendable. 6'2'' and a little over 200 pounds, he has the potential to take big minutes and would be an excellent fit to play with Quinn Hughes.
The Canucks would be trading away great potential in Nils Hoglander and a 1st Rounder. However, they'd be adding key pieces to their core amidst a retool. Schneider is only 21 and could be part of the team's core for years to come.
