LATEST | Ducks parting ways with one of their top scorers: One of the best reclamation projects out there
Maxime Comtois time with the Anaheim Ducks is reportedly coming to an end, as according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, he won't be issued a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent.
"There is word that it is unlikely ANA will give a qualifying offer to Max Comtois this week. The forward is expected to become a UFA, available to everyone." Friedman said.
The Longueuil, Quebec native would be a very good fit for the Canucks on their third line and plays a similar style to a name we suggested yesterday, Julien Gauthier, except Comtois has the potential to be better offensively, while playing with that snarl. He led the Anaheim Ducks in points during the COVID-shortened 2021 season, putting up 33 (16 goals, 17 assists) in 55 games.
Comtois is no stranger to playing in Vancouver either. He captained Canada at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, which was co-hosted by Vancouver's Rogers Arena.
The 24-year-old was drafted by the Ducks in the second round (50th overall) back in 2017 and has spent parts of five seasons in the NHL with them. In 210 career games with the Ducks, Comtois had 86 points (38 goals, 48 assists), 193 penalty minutes and was a minus-38.
There will be plenty of options for the Canucks starting on Saturday to add to their third line and grab a middle-six forward, but two names that should be atop Allvin's list are Comtois and Julien Gauthier. Who would you rather on the Canucks' roster next season? Let us know in the poll below!
