MAJOR | Ethan Bear opens up on his future and a possible reunion with the Canucks
At the end of the season, everything was pointing toward an extension with the Canucks for Ethan Bear. The defenseman chose to take the opportunity to represent the country in the Men's World Championship where he unfortunately got injured.
Bear came back, learned that he would be out until mid-December. This all led to the Canucks taking care of other matters instead of re-signing the beloved number 74. Since then, Bear's had quite the busy summer even though his NHL future remain unclear. As announced the other day, he tied the knot with his wife earlier this weekend and doesn't seem to be too worried about the next step.
He gave an interview to the excellent Patrick Johnston from the Province and made positive statements regarding a possible future with the team in Vancouver:
''I would love to come back to the #Canucks. I would love to. But that's how the business goes. I was talking with Patrik (Allvin) and he told me himself 'we have to clear some cap space. [.] I'm not anxious or really worried at the moment. For me, I get all this time to really take care of my body and I get it to where I want it, before I have to start competing again. I see it as a blessing, not a curse.»
Currently spending time with his family in Kelowna, Bear takes care of his injury and his newborn. Hopefully Patrik Allvin figures out this whole salary cap situation before Bear finds work elsewhere. If Myers were to be traded, he'd represent an excellent option to take his roster spot.
Bear, 25, managed 16 points in 61 outings with the Canucks. Paired to Quinn Hughes for the better part of his stay in Vancouver, the two represented the team's top pairing in every game situation.
