Canucks Captain Quinn Hughes Breaks Silence Regarding Where He Stands on Rick Tocchet's Future in Vancouver

Quinn Hughes recently shared where he stands on Rick Tocchet's future behind the bench for the Vancouver Canucks.
The Vancouver Canucks saw their playoff hopes came to an end on Tuesday night due to wins by the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild, which means that four games stand between the team and the start of the offseason.
It's going to be an interesting offseason to say the least, with the biggest topic of discussion being Rick Tocchet's future as the team's head coach and if Quinn Hughes has anything to say about it, he wants his bench boss to return.

As everyone knows by now, Rick Tocchet has a team option for the 2025-26 season in his contract and if that's not exercised by Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford, then his tenure will come to an end and the Canucks management would need to begin the search for a new head coach.
The Canucks and Rick Tocchet are expected to sit down in the coming weeks to discuss where things go, with reports last month suggesting that the team has already made an contract extension offer to him.
During a recent interview with Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet, Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes shared where he stands on Rick Tocchet's future with the organization.
Hughes said that Rick Tocchet is an amazing coach and that he's helped him quite a bit in his own individual game, adding that he'll return behind the bench for the Canucks next season and beyond.
"He's an amazing coach. You look at me individually and my game, he's been amazing for me - amazing for a lot of guys. He's just a great person, first of all. That's a guy you want to compete for, you want to play for. And he's a terrific coach." Hughes said according to Iain MacIntyre.
He went on to add, "But whatever he does, it's his decision. Obviously, I'd like to have him back. And I think he knows that."

Since Rick Tocchet was brought in back in January 2023, the Vancouver Canucks have a record of 106-64-26 in 196 games and came one win away from making it to the Western Conference Final last season.
We'll have to wait and see where things go on the Rick Tocchet front in the weeks ahead - whether he lands a contract extension or the two sides go their separate ways - but there should be some sort of decision either way before the NHL Entry Draft, one would assume.
