Ex-Canucks coach Bruce Boudreau wants to return to an NHL bench
Former Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Bruce Boudreau has been without a job in the NHL since early 2023 when he was let go by the organization. Since his dismissal, he's coached Canada at the Spengler Cup and was an advisor for the OHL's Niagara IceDogs, but Boudreau is wanting something bigger next season.
In a recent interview with Joe Smith of The Athletic, Bruce Boudreau expressed his desire to be back behind the bench in the National Hockey League and there's no shortage of options for the former Canucks Head Coach.
There are currently six teams without a head coach including a pair of Canadian teams - the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets. Among the other options for Boudreau are the San Jose Sharks, Seattle Kraken, New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings.
"Bruce Boudreau 🇨🇦 says he is still hoping that he can get another opportunity to coach an NHL franchise.
The 69-year old spent this past season as the franchise owner of the Hershey Cubs (USPHL Premier) 🇺🇸, a senior advisor for the Niagara IceDogs (OHL) 🇨🇦, and head coach of the Canadian National Team 🇨🇦 at the Spengler Cup.
The current teams with a head coach vacancy include: San Jose, Seattle, New Jersey, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Winnipeg." PuckEmpire said in a post on Instagram.
Boudreau, a native of Toronto, spent parts of two seasons as the head coach of the Vancouver Canucks, leading the team to a record of 50-40-13 in 103 games. In January 2023, the Canucks fired Bruce Boudreau and replaced him with their current head coach, Rick Tocchet.
