Some internal candidates to replace Dakota Joshua's spot on the Vancouver Canucks' NHL roster for the upcoming 2025-26 season have begun to emerge.

When the Vancouver Canucks made the decision to trade Dakota Joshua, which some fans weren't happy about, it left a hole in the forward group.
While Joshua's physicality will undoubtedly be replaced by Evander Kane, who was acquired back in June, there's still a glaring hole in the bottom six and as we inch closer to training camp in a little less than two months, there will be a number of players who will be vying for that spot on the team's opening night roster.

Potential internal replacements for Dakota Joshua's roster spot emerge

In a recent article on Canucks Army, Jeff Paterson took a look at some potential internal options the Vancouver Canucks could consider for that roster spot, while also highlighting some players that could benefit the most from last week's trade.
Among the names mentioned by Paterson are three players who are coming off a Calder Cup championship and are hoping to land a roster spot out of camp - Arshdeep Bains, Linus Karlsson and Max Sasson.
"It feels like now or never for Arshdeep Bains to solidify himself as a full time NHLer. He'll turn 25 in January. He's coming off a terrific Calder Cup playoff run in Abbotsford. He should have confidence as he arrives at training camp. And now, a legitimate opportunity has been presented on the left side with Joshua's departure." Paterson said about Arshdeep Bains.

Bains, Karlsson and Sasson all had pretty good seasons down in the American Hockey League with Abbotsford, registering 43, 39 and 32 points, respectively, and the three have shown that they are ready to take that next step and become full-time NHLers as early as this fall.
Unfortunately for those three players mentioned above, there isn't room for all of them on the NHL roster at the start of the 2025-26 season and the trio are now eligible for waivers, which will make things even more difficult for General Manager Patrik Allvin during the latter stages of training camp as he'll hope to sneak at least two of them through the wire in order to assign them to AHL Abbotsford.
