Former NHLer Louie DeBrusk gives his take on Jake joining the Canucks
Former NHLer Louie DeBrusk believes the Vancouver Canucks are a great fit for his son Jake.
The Vancouver Canucks made a big splash on the free agent market on July 1st when they signed forward Jake DeBrusk to a seven-year contract worth $5.5 million per season.
Jake's father Louie DeBrusk, a former NHLer and now a colour commentator for Sportsnet, spoke highly of his son in a recent interview with Ben Kuzma of The Province. Louie said that his son is not easy to play against, works hard and can play in all situations, but will also be a finisher for the Vancouver Canucks. Jake DeBrusk has three 25+ goal seasons under his belt through seven seasons in the National Hockey League and is poised to light the lamp alongside Elias Pettersson, who he'll likely start the year on a line with.
"His play without the puck is what people are going to be most impressed about," Louie DeBrusk said. "The guy is a hound. He's not easy to play against, he tracks back, blocks shots and can play the penalty kill and power play."
He added, "The most important thing is the kid is a finisher. He can make plays. He's already talked about Pettersson in the few skates they've had in how when he's in position, he puts the puck right on his tape. Jake brings energy and a lot of speed and when he's buzzing he'll take over a line."
Louie DeBrusk went on to say that Jake is super pumped to be joining the Vancouver and believes that this will be a great fit for his son with the direction the team is heading in.
"He's super-pumped. He's been on Cloud 9 all summer. He said it feels like he's going back to his first camp. You can lose a little bit of that with the same team. Now, he's got to be on his toes. It's a great fit."
Canucks fans will get their first official look at Jake DeBrusk on the ice starting next week at training camp and could see him in game action as early as Tuesday, September 24th against the Seattle Kraken.
