Former Top-Ten Pick Suggested as Potential Trade Target for the Vancouver Canucks
A former top-ten pick with over 400 games of NHL experience has been suggested as a potential trade target for the Vancouver Canucks and General Manager Patrik Allvin.
Throughout this summer, the Canucks have been linked to a number of centermen, via trade and free agency, including
Mason McTavish of the Anaheim Ducks and
even UFA forward Jack Roslovic, who is coming off a solid year with the Carolina Hurricanes.
While it's not guaranteed that Patrik Allvin will be able to add another centerman to the fold before training camp, but another intriguing option has been suggested recently by an NHL insider.
Former top-ten pick suggested as possible trade target for the Vancouver Canucks
While making an appearance on Sekeres and Price on Monday, Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects was discussing rumors around the National Hockey League including about the Boston Bruins, with a couple of their cetnerman potentially being available.
Robinson believes that both Zacha and Mittelstadt would both be upgrades for the Vancouver Canucks at their second line center position than what they currently have, which is
Filip Chytil.
"Yeah, both would represent upgrades, I would feel. I like Mittelstadt. They bring different qualities to their game, but I think Mittelstadt has a little bit higher pure offensive skill. Zacha is the bigger body and can kind of bang a little bit more but does, you know, he has a couple of decent seasons under his belt too. Price to acquire, you know, it's not going to be cheap for either of those players, I don't think. Boston's probably going to be a little more open to moving out right now. I think they're in a transitional phase. But yes, I think Vancouver I'm sure would be calling on both those players." Robinson said.
The Eden Prairie, Minnesota native put up 40 points (15 goals, 25 assists), 24 penalty minutes and was a minus-29 in 81 games between Colorado and Boston last season and has two years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $5.75 million USD.
Acquiring Casey Mittelstadt would be a big boost offensively for the Canucks too, as while he might not be a 20+ goal scorer, he can certainly dish the puck and is a decent playmaker, but again, as Robinson mentioned, it won't be cheap and Patrik Allvin will need to weigh the pros and cons before giving up a big asset (like a first round pick or top prospect) for the 26-year-old.
