Jim Rutherford Confirms Canucks Fans Worst Nightmare Regarding Drama Between Elias Pettersson & J.T. Miller
After an exciting and eventful season in Vancouver in 2023-24, winning the Pacific Division and coming one win away from the Western Conference Final, things have gone south pretty quickly in the last ten months.
Jim Rutherford, the Canucks' President of Hockey Operations, recently sat down with The Globe and Mail to discuss the current state of the team and whether or not they can continue with the core they have.
Jim Rutherford confirms rift, says there's no solution to keep this group together
In that interview with Gary Mason of The Globe and Mail, Rutherford confirmed that there is a rift between Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller and that it's become a distraction in the room, making it hard for the team to form chemistry.
"When you don't have chemistry, it's hard to become that consistent team because there's too much going on in the room for everybody to concentrate on what they're supposed to do" Rutherford said.
When asked if he thinks the rift between Miller & Pettersson has effected the whole team, Rutherford replied with "Yes, yep."
Later in the interview, Rutherford said that they're at the point where there's no good solution that can keep the current group together, all but confirming that one of J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson will be traded.
"I felt like for a long time that there was a solution here because everybody has worked on it, including the parties involved. But it only gets resolved for a short period of time and then it festers again and so it appears like there's not a good solution that would keep this group together." Rutherford said.
To go from one win away from an appearance in the Western Conference Final to the drama and inconsistency this season, it's been tough for Vancouver Canucks fans, but at the same time, it's refreshing to hear a member of the management group coming out and telling it as it is.
The National Hockey League's trade deadline is just 38 days away and we're officially entering the final weeks with J.T. Miller and/or Elias Pettersson as members of the Vancouver Canucks.
