In recent days, a report from The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta surfaced stating that the Canucks have offered Elias Pettersson a long term deal at $12 million per year.

Pagnotta says according to "a well-placed source tied to the club", a $96 million eight year deal was offered by the Canucks at the start of the season, and while Pettersson hasn't rejected it, he has not put pen to paper - preferring to wait out the season.

However, that report has been refuted by Canucks Insider Rick Dhaliwal.

On the Sportsnet 650's Halford and Brough, Dhaliwal said his sources were adamant that The Fourth Period report is untrue.

I was told by sources who would know, this is not accurate. I've never seen these sources that upset over a report,

On Friday's 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman also said he had not heard such reports, but said it's possible Pagnotta has better information.

In any case, a new contract for Pettersson doesn't appear imminent.
