A Canadian team has entered the mix as a potential landing spot for Vancouver Canucks forward Pius Suter, with less than a week to go until free agency begins.
The National Hockey League's free agency window opens in five days and the Vancouver Canucks are continuing to weigh their options with two notable UFAs, Brock Boeser and Pius Suter.
At this point, it seems quite likely that both players will hit the open market on July 1st, however, the Vancouver Canucks have reportedly reconnected with Pius Suter and his camp this week in hopes of working out a deal.
"I believe the Canucks have reconnected with Pius Suter's camp in the last 24 hours, I believe contract talks are back on. Canucks are clearly having a tough time getting a top-six centre done. There is one in-house, and that is Suter." Rick Dhaliwal said earlier this week.
Canadian team reportedly interested in Vancouver Canucks' Pius Suter
In a recent article on ESPN, Kristen Shilton and Greg Wyshynski shared that the Toronto Maple Leafs are taking a look at the centre market to see what there options could be if they're unable to agree to terms on a deal with John Tavares.
Shilton and Wyshynski revealed that the Toronto Maple Leafs are among the teams that are interested in Vancouver Canucks centerman Pius Suter, if he makes it to the free agent market next week.
"Sam Bennett appears determined to stay in Florida. Toews and Matt Duchene have signed elsewhere. Beyond Tavares, the Leafs are looking at Mikael Granlund, Pius Suter or perhaps Claude Giroux." Shilton and Wyshynski said.
After a strong season for Pius Suter, which saw him set new career highs in goals (25) and points (46) and tie his previous high in assists (21), the Zurich, Switzerland native has certainly earned a sizeable bump in pay.
"Elliotte Friedman: Pius Suter thinks he can get $4.5 per on the open market; I'm still not convinced Vancouver are comfortable with the number - SN 590" NHL Rumour Report said on X."
$4.5 million would be more than doable for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who according to PuckPedia, have just over $25.7 million available in cap space to work with this summer.
