An NHL insider recently revealed what the Minnesota Wild asked the Vancouver Canucks for in trade talks involving Austrian forward Marco Rossi this summer.

With Patrik Allvin aggressively searching for a second line centerman this summer, one name that popped up early on was Marco Rossi of the Minnesota Wild.
Rossi entered the offseason as a restricted free agent, with his camp and the Minnesota Wild unable to get a deal done until late August when he put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal worth $15 million US ($5 million AAV).
The Feldkirch, Austria native certainly would've been a good fit for the Vancouver Canucks, with the 24-year-old seeing an increase in production of 20 point between the 2023-24 & 2024-25 seasons, leading Patrik Allvin to make an aggressive offer for him in June, which reportedly included their 2025 first round pick.

NHL insider reveals what the Minnesota Wild wanted from Vancouver Canucks in Marco Rossi trade talks

According to NHL insider Irfaan Gaffar, the Minnesota Wild initially wanted Vancouver Canucks top prospect Tom Willander included in a package for Marco Rossi, which GM Patrik Allvin said no to.
Then, another source told Gaffar that the Minnesota Wild made an offer of Marco Rossi for the 15th overall pick this year, Finnish forward Aatu Raty and goaltender Arturs Silovs, who was eventually traded to Pittsburgh later in the summer, which was declined by Allvin & Co.
"When the Marco Rossi conversation was going on, apparently the Wild wanted Willander, and that didn't happen. Then, someone told me it was 15th overall, Aatu Raty, and Arturs Silovs for Rossi, which the Canucks also said no to." Gaffar said.

He added, "Good for them, there would have been no Braeden Cootes had that deal gone through. In the end, the Canucks have what they have now and will be keeping a close eye on looking to improve. And if history is any indication of anything, this management group isn't afraid of making moves."

The Vancouver Canucks weren't able to find that second line centerman they wanted this summer, with Filip Chytil set to assume the role for at least the start of the season as General Manager Patrik Allvin is set to continue his search for help down the middle in the weeks ahead, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
