Former Vancouver Canuck John Garrett shared on Friday which goaltender he believes would be a perfect trade chip for the team during the summer.

A lot of the talk so far this spring for the Vancouver Canucks has been their need for a second line centerman and possibly even a top-six winger if the team loses Brock Boeser to free agency on July 1st.
Aside from their needs on forward, the Canucks are going to have a big decision to make with their goaltending situation this summer, with Kevin Lankinen's five-year extension beginning next season.

With team very comfortable heading into next season with Kevin Lankinen between the pipes, either as a starter or splitting the duties, the Vancouver Canucks are going to need to decide who they'll want playing behind him.
The easy answer would be Thatcher Demko, given his experience at the NHL level and the ability to steal games for the Canucks when they need it the most, however his injury issues over the last year have led to questions about his future in Vancouver.
Demko is set to enter the final year of his contract and according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, is reportedly open to a change of scenery this summer.
"Pettersson won't be the only topic of discussion surrounding the Canucks over the next few weeks. Goalie Thatcher Demko appears open to a change of scenery and is expected to be in play as he enters the final year of his contract." Pagnotta said in late May.

Meanwhile, Arturs Silovs is also an option for Vancouver next season and is could force Patrik Allvin's hand given his strong play during the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs, where he has a 1.94 goals against average, a .931 save percentage and five shutouts in 19 games.
Silovs has shown that he is ready for the National Hockey League on a full-time basis, whether that's in Vancouver or elsewhere, but his play this spring is leading to questions about him potentially being the one moved by the Canucks.
During an appearance on Donnie & Dhali, former Vancouver Canucks goaltender and broadcaster John Garrett, who was recently awarded an assist on Gordie Howe's final professional goal by the NHL, shared his thoughts on the goaltending situation heading into the offseason.
Garrett says that if the Vancouver Canucks don't move Thatcher Demko, then Arturs Silovs would be a perfect trade chip for the organization.
"He is setting himself up for...if the Canucks don't decide to trade Thatcher [Demko], then Silovs is a perfect trade chip.

He's young, like you say, he'll be cheap, the next contract he gets he'll be undervalued and he's proven.

The World Championships, the All-Star goalie at the World Championships and now, he's been absolutely lights out." Garrett said.
It's certainly going to be interesting to see what the Vancouver Canucks decide to do with their goaltending situation heading into the 2025-26 season, but it seems pretty likely that they'll have to move one of Thatcher Demko or Arturs Silovs before training camp.
