An NHL insider has shared some new information regarding potential management changes if the Vancouver Canucks are to struggle in the first few months of the season.

After a very long summer, we're every so close to the start of the new hockey season, with the Vancouver Canucks set to open up training camp this Thursday in Penticton, British Columbia.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin made some big moves this summer, acquiring Evander Kane from the Edmonton Oilers, re-signing Brock Boeser, trading away Dakota Joshua & Arturs Silovs, but he wasn't able to find that legit second line centerman that the club has been coveting for months.
Last season was disappointing for a number of reasons and with the Canucks missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs, not only will the pressure be on the team to perform this year, but it appears that management might be on the hot seat.

Management changes could come in Vancouver before New Year's Day

According to Patrick Johnston of The Province, sources have indicated that if the Vancouver Canucks get off to a slow start to the 2025-26 season and happen to struggle, there could be management changes by Christmas.
"If this team struggles out of the gate, by Christmas there will be management changes." Johnston's source said.

If, and it's a big if, the Vancouver Canucks were to relieve Patrik Allvin of his duties as General Manager at some point this season, the list of candidates to replace him could be long, but one name Johnston says to keep an eye on is Assistant GM Ryan Johnson.
"The Canucks have smartly given him new titles over the past few seasons, essentially promoting him to a spot where a GM job is the likely next step for him. The Canucks won't want to lose him but if another team comes along looking to give a shot to a guy who's worked hard behind the scenes for years, he'll be a strong candidate." Johnston said.

Johnson has been with the organization in various roles since the start of the 2013-14 season and even spent two years in Vancouver during his playing career.
As Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali pointed out last week, Johnson is starting to impress teams around the league for the work he's done with AHL Abbotsford, adding that it wouldn't be a shock if he's a General Manager at the NHL level in the near future.
Only time will tell how the Vancouver Canucks deal with their management staff if the team ends up getting off to a slow start, but there's no doubt that all fans are hoping for the opposite and for their club to be in a playoff spot by the time the calendar flips to 2026.
