A former fifth-overall pick could reportedly become available to the Vancouver Canucks and other teams around the National Hockey League in the coming weeks as trade talks are expected to pick up.
The Vancouver Canucks are among several teams
in the market for a second line centerman this season after striking out on several attempts to land one since the beginning of the NHL's offseason both on the free agent and trade front.
Over the next several weeks, as teams around the league get a better picture of where they'll stand heading into American Thanksgiving - an important date for postseason chances - we could see action start to pick up and for the Vancouver Canucks, they could have an opportunity to pounce on a former fifth-overall pick.

During a recent edition of
DFO Rundown, National Hockey League insider David Pagnotta said that teams have already begun to inquire with the St. Louis Blues about their captain,
Brayden Schenn, and if the team isn't able to claw their way back into the playoff picture, he could end up being a very valuable trade chip for General Manager Doug Armstrong.
"I think Schenn is a guy that we're going to be hearing his name a little bit more later on in the season, especially if they can't put together a solid run here and get back into - and I know it's close and I know it's early - but be really part of the playoff discussion come December. Otherwise, like I said, you're going to hear Schenn's name more." Pagnotta said.
Irfaan Gaffar went on to add, "Brayden Schenn is a guy that if you're a Stanley Cup contender, he's going to put you over the edge. He's going to give you that. He's physical, gets in your face, will fight, obviously, has a ton of experience. So, he's definitely a player that'll put you over the edge if you are a team looking."
Schenn, 34, is struggling to start the season as he's registered just two goals and six points in 15 games and could be in need of a new challenge as the St. Louis Blues are far from Stanley Cup contenders and might not be any closer for the duration of his contract, which has two years remaining beyond the 2025-26 campaign at a cap hit of $6.5 million US.
In order for the Vancouver Canucks to be in the mix for Brayden Schenn and to show him that they'd be a good landing spot, should the St. Louis Blues entertain offers for him, they'll really need to turn things around throughout the rest of November.
The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native has 1,037 games of NHL experience under his belt with the Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers and St. Louis Blues, winning a Stanley Cup with the latter back in 2019.
