Rutherford updates on Filip Hronek's contract negotiations
Filip Hronek has soared past his previous career-high of 38 points, posting 47 in 76 games in his first full season in a Canucks uniform. He is on pace for over 50 points for the first time in his career and is the team's second-highest scoring among defensemen behind Quinn Hughes.
Hronek is notably a free agent on July 1st, and is in line for a major pay raise given his heightened production since joining the Canucks (48 points in 80 total games). The 26-year-old is tied for 6th in the NHL with a plus-33 rating.
There's nothing I can tell you contract-wise other than the fact that we like [Hronek] and he has brought a certain element to this team and helped us get to where we are.
But he's also a free agent that will be on the upper end of the scale as far as a cap hit. Hopefully we can figure out something at some point in time.
- Jim Rutherford
The quote from Rutherford implies a focus on the upcoming Stanley Cup Playoffs, likely recirculating to contract talks in the off-season. One thing is virtually for certain no matter who signs Hronek, he will likely receive the highest payout of his young career to date.
