A new report out this week has revealed what injury Vancouver Canucks defenseman Derek Forbort may be dealing with after well over a month on the sidelines.
Injuries have caused a big headache for the Vancouver Canucks this season as at one point, they had upwards of nine players from their NHL roster on the sidelines including Filip Chytil and Teddy Blueger, among others.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin gave an injury update on Derek Forbort towards the end of October, telling reporters that he's suffered a setback in his recovery and is out week-to-week.
"Allvin suggests that Chytil has been making progress but still needs to go through the protocol and hasnt been cleared. 2-3 weeks for Lekkerimäki Forbort had a setback and is week to week. Allvin says a lack of practice time also a challenge to get these guys back." Farhan Lalji of TSN said on X last month.
Insider reveals what injury Vancouver Canucks' Derek Forbort may be dealing with
According to Gaffar, the Duluth, Minnesota native is dealing with a groin or abdominal injury that is taking a lot longer to heal that all sides were expecting and hoping for.
"Meanwhile, Derek Forbort, who has been out for quite some time, is suffering from some sort of groin/ab issue that has taken a lot longer to heal than both parties would have wanted." Gaffar said.
Forbort, 33, re-signed with the club back in the spring on a one-year, $2 million contract and after a recent report suggested the Vancouver Canucks have made veterans available, there's a good chance, if he returns to full health well ahead of time, that the pending unrestricted free agent could be moved by Patrik Allvin leading up to the deadline on Friday, March 6th.
In 56 games as a member of the Vancouver Canucks, Forbort has registered 11 points (two goals, nine assists), 47 penalty minutes and is a minus-seven.
