The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly among teams showing interest in a former first round pick that the organization has made an offer for earlier in the offseason.
With less than a month to go until the Vancouver Canucks
open up training camp, the team is continuing to search for a suitable second line centerman for their roster, but it's certainly been tough this summer, both from a price point and with a lack of players being available.
One name that the Vancouver Canucks
have been interested in dating back to early June is
Marco Rossi of the Minnesota Wild, who remains unsigned and a restricted free agent as of August 21st.
Vancouver's pursuit of Marco Rossi reportedly cooled off as the summer went on, especially
after the Wild rejected a trade offer for the Austrian centerman, but one insider gave a big update on matter on Thursday, which will certainly bring a smile to many Canucks fans.
Vancouver Canucks have reportedly circled back on Minnesota Wild RFA Marco Rossi
In an article for RG.org this morning, James Murphy reported, citing an NHL source, that the Vancouver Canucks and their Pacific Northwest rivals, the Seattle Kraken, have circled back on Marco Rossi recently.
"According to two different NHL sources, the Vancouver Canucks and the Seattle Kraken recently circled back with the Minnesota Wild to see where they stand in their contract talks with restricted free agent center Marco Rossi." Murphy said.
The source said to Murphy that both the Canucks and Kraken were in the mix for the former ninth overall pick from about mid-June to mid-July and have made it known that if things go south in contract negotiations with the Wild, they'd both be interested once again in adding the young centerman.
"Both were in on Rossi leading into and at the NHL Entry Draft, and until probably mid-July, and I'm hearing that they've made it clear that if it gets to the point in the next month, where contract talks between Rossi and the Wild reach a point of no return, they want to see what it would take to acquire Rossi." one source said to Murphy.
Rossi, a native of Felkirch, Austria, has taken big strides in his development in recent years, finishing his sophomore season in the National Hockey League with 60 points (24 goals, 36 assists) in 82 games, before going on to add three points in six postseason contests.
While Rossi may be on the short side of things, standing at 5'9" tall, he certainly would bring a lot to the Vancouver Canucks' lineup - skill, good hands and a scoring touch that would be hard to pass up, and could even slot into the 2C hole, which would allow
Filip Chytil to take on the 3C role.
