Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote gave an update after forward Conor Garland was absent from the team's practice on Tuesday morning.
The Vancouver Canucks hit the ice on Sunday as the team prepared for their second game of the preseason, which is set to be held at Abbotsford Centre, home of their American Hockey League affiliate, against the Calgary Flames.
""#Canucks say that Demko, Garland, Myers, Höglander, M. Pettersson, and Chytil will all be in the lineup when they play in Abbotsford next week." Rob Williams of Daily Hive said last week.
Adam Foote gives update on Conor Garland after missing Tuesday's practice, won't play Wednesday vs Seattle
When meeting with reporters after Tuesday's practice, Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote said that Conor Garland is dealing with something minor and that he more than likely won't be suiting up on Wednesday night.
"Adam Foote says Conor Garland dealing with something minor. Would play if regular season, but probably won't play tomorrow in Abbotsford." Jeff Paterson of Canucks Army said.
Foote went on to add that because everything is so condensed in an Olympic year, he wants to prioritize maintenance when it comes to his players and that if it were a regular season game, Garland would be playing.
"He was supposed to play tomorrow night. If we were playing a home opener, he would be playing. I'm a big believer with the condensed Olympic year...we want to make sure we do the right thing with maintenance." Foote said according to Sportsnet 650's Brendan Batchelor.
Garland, 29, is gearing up for a big season in Vancouver
after signing a six-year extension, which begins in 2026-27, back on July 1st and is hoping that with a strong start to the new campaign, he can put himself in a good position to land a spot on the United States' Olympic roster.
It's unclear exactly how long Conor Garland will be out for, but given that the Canucks don't seem too worried and are calling it "something minor", don't be surprised if the Scituate, Massachusetts native is back on the ice this weekend and potentially in the lineup for either Sunday's game against the Edmonton Oilers or next Wednesday's against the Calgary Flames.
