The Vancouver Canucks have officially announced the hiring of a longtime National Hockey League defenseman for their Sportsnet broadcasts during the 2025-26 season.

We're officially less than two weeks away from the start of the National Hockey League's 2025-26 season and anticipation is building in Vancouver as the club is hoping to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs next spring.
Earlier this month, Sportsnet confirmed their broadcast team for the 2025-26 season, which will feature Dan Murphy, John Shorthouse, Dave Tomlinson, along with Ray Ferraro on a part-time basis, and on Friday, made a significant addition that fans are going to be quite happy about.

In a post on social media on Friday morning, the Vancouver Canucks announced that longtime NHL defenseman Tyson Barrie will be joining their broadcasts on Sportsnet Pacific for the 2025-26 season.
"We are excited to welcome 14-year NHL veteran Tyson Barrie to the #Canucks regional home broadcasts on @Sportsnet for the 2025.26 season!" the Canucks said.

Barrie, a native of Victoria, British Columbia, announced his retirement from professional hockey this past summer and expressed how happy he is to be joining the broadcast team this season for the organization he grew up cheering for.
"Growing up on Vancouver Island, I always thought it would be special to finish my career with the Canucks. While my playing days ended elsewhere, I'm grateful for the chance to start this new chapter with a great organization so close to home. I've always embraced the lighter side of the game, and I'm excited to bring years of insight and lots of laughs to the broadcast!" Barrie said.
The 34-year-old recently spoke about a failed trade that almost went down in the summer of 2019 that would've sent him to the Vancouver Canucks, but instead, he ended up joining the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"I was actually in New York City at a bachelor party that I'd planned, and we were at a Yankees game, and my phone rang. It was my agent. He goes, Hey, Tyson, oh, you're in New York. I don't usually bother you with this stuff, but there's a chance you're gonna go to the Canucks here at the draft. He's, like, it sounds like it's close, and we won't know until they announced the pick. But stay tuned." Barrie said.

He added, "So I was just watching the Yankees game, thinking I was getting traded to the Canucks, which I was like, you know, obviously I love Colorado, but I kind of knew I was going to get traded. So to be able to go home to Vancouver, in a way, would have been really cool, but obviously didn't materialize. So I talked to Sakic after, and he said it wasn't actually that close, so it kind of shows you the business you're in a little bit."

Tyson Barrie's first regular season appearance on Sportsnet Pacific is set for Thursday, October 9th against the Calgary Flames.
